Privacy & security

Your choices about sharing, access and recovery.

Share with the people you choose.

Adults invited to your family map can view the shared information they have permission to see. Viewers can suggest changes; Editors can update shared information within their permissions.

Map Admins manage invitations, membership and each member’s Viewer or Editor permissions. You control your own personal records, choose their recipients and approve changes to them. Being an Editor, Map Admin, follow-up contact or payer does not grant extra access to someone else’s restricted information or authority to change their personal release rules.

Invitations take effect after the recipient accepts and the Map Admin confirms the intended account. A forwarded invitation alone does not grant access.

Storing and sharing another person’s private information requires their permission or legal authority. Family relationships alone do not establish that authority.

Your private records are encrypted before upload.

Your private information is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded. Dachuko stores encrypted backups without access to their contents.

Dachuko uses account and contact information to manage access, send reminders and handle release requests. These operational details are handled separately from encrypted family records.

Supporting evidence submitted for a release review is also separate from encrypted family records. Human reviewers need access to that evidence to assess the request.

Find shared essentials offline.

Previously synced essentials are available offline within your existing permissions, with encrypted device storage and a visible last-updated time. Restricted personal information stays unavailable until release is authorized.

A new or replacement device needs connectivity, successful sign-in and encrypted-data recovery or authorized provisioning.

Removing access cannot immediately recall information on an offline device or copies someone has saved, printed or photographed. On reconnection, Dachuko enforces the updated permissions and removes cached copies the person can no longer access.

Keep a way back in.

Use another device you’ve already authorized for your Dachuko account, or a recovery kit saved outside Dachuko to recover access to your encrypted records if you lose your phone. Signing in or verifying your identity alone does not restore decryption access.

If you lose all your usable devices and recovery material, you can permanently lose access to your encrypted records.

Other members may retain access to information already shared with them. Their access does not unlock personal information that remains restricted from them.

You choose who receives personal information.

Personal release happens only after your death has been verified. You choose the information and recipients. Recipients know they’ve been chosen and agree to receive it later; their agreement does not give them early access.

Recipient reminders help keep their contact details and access arrangements current. If a recipient does not respond, that does not trigger a release review or unlock your information. Reminders for Editors to review shared information are also separate from personal release.

Owner check-ins help Dachuko follow up if we cannot reach you. You choose someone who has joined your family map to contact in that situation, with an optional backup. Each must agree to be contacted. Being chosen for follow-up does not automatically make someone a recipient or give them extra access or release authority.

A chosen recipient’s request or follow-up after unanswered owner check-ins can start a review. Neither grants access by itself. A human reviewer verifies the death using supporting evidence. Dachuko shares only the information you selected with the people you chose.

Dachuko does not replace a will, transfer assets, decide who inherits them or authorize signing into someone else’s accounts. Dachuko excludes passwords and login credentials because they can unlock accounts directly. Keep them in a dedicated password manager; Dachuko helps your family find account information and follow official recovery processes.

What happens to stored information when a map closes.

After the payer’s death is verified, your family has 12 months to view and export information within existing permissions. If nobody takes over billing before normal service ends, the subscription closes to renewal and the map becomes read-only. Its stored data and backups are deleted at the end of the 12 months, while honoring any longer period already paid for. The service policies explain the billing deadline and the separate timeline for ordinary failed renewals.

A release review checks the evidence of death and the person’s instructions before any information is released. If a review is still underway when the map closes, Dachuko keeps only the information needed to finish the review and any authorized delivery. This limited retention can extend beyond the 12-month transition or ordinary closure deadline.

Existing stored information remains encrypted and backed up while it is retained, including during read-only access. New uploads and changes pause during that period.

Viewing and exporting remain subject to your existing permissions until data deletion. Read-only access never unlocks restricted information. Deletion cannot recall copies someone has already saved.

For renewal, export and closure deadlines, see the service policies, including the 12-month transition after the payer’s death is verified.

Keep a copy you can use independently.

You can export your own information while the service operates. Exports of shared information follow the map’s export permissions and preserve personal release restrictions.

Before a planned shutdown, Dachuko notifies users and provides an opportunity to export their information.

An export does not guarantee that a later restricted release can be completed after the service closes.
